This Giving Tuesday, the Rescue Mission wants to highlight that, because of the generosity of people like you, men, women, and children in our community who were once facing hopelessness and uncertainty now have a safe space to recover and a brighter future ahead thanks to YOUR generosity.
Before coming to the Mission, Mark had lost everything, including getting a divorce and losing custody of his two children, resulting in him becoming homeless. He was lost, alone, and didn’t know where to turn. “When I was homeless, I went three days without eating. Nervous and afraid, I would muster up the confidence to go into restaurants or stores, explain my situation, and ask for food. One day I met someone who recommended the River of Life shelter and was gracious enough to drive me down there.”
Mark worked hard to get his life back and quickly found a full-time job that allowed him to qualify for an apartment and build a relationship with his sons again after he gained full custody of them.
Yet, no journey is complete without a test of resilience and resolve. Mark was suddenly notified to vacate his apartment, where he began building his new life with his kids. “We were there for almost a year when we came home to a note on our door informing us that we only had a few month’s notice to vacate.” Devastated and shocked, Mark’s focus immediately shifted to his two boys.
“I looked at every available place, but I couldn’t afford the down payment and first month’s rent in so little time. That’s when I called my old case manager at River of Life, and he told me about the new transitional housing facility; just like that we were approved to move in!”
Relieved from the weight of worry, Mark soon moved into the Next Step Curtis facility, where he and his family are fed three times a day and can also focus on their family and save up for their next home. “Our inevitable goal is to put a down payment on a small house. My boys have been resilient during the whole situation, and it has made us grow closer.”
For just $3.27, you can make a world of difference for a neighbor in need today. Each meal served at the Mission is more than just a meal. It’s a nourishing lifeline for a life and family restored.
Because of someone like you, Mark’s life is filled with so much more hope! This Giving Tuesday, you can help provide safe shelter for more people like Mark to get back on their feet. To give select the following link – Donate Today
