JOB DESCRIPTION
Boise Rescue Mission Ministries is looking for men and women who love Jesus and want to help give homeless men and women a safe and stable place to get a new start in life.
The Learning Center Coordinator must hold to the doctrine and constitution/by-laws of the Mission. They must be regular attendees of a local church and be willing to sign and adhere to the Mission’s Statement of Faith.
Job Summary: The Rescue Mission currently has a full-time position available in our Women and Children’s facility in Nampa to coordinate learning center policies and procedures to best assist students (both guests & programmers) with their education and work. This may also include teaching classes and career guidance.
Details:
- Reports to – Learning Center Manager
- Facility – Lighthouse (304 16th Ave N, Nampa, ID)
- Hours – full time (40 hours per week) Monday – Friday / 8:00am – 4:30pm
- Needs to be flexible to these standard hours as some evening classes do occur.

- Training – will take place in our Boise facility.
Skills and Abilities Needed:
- Maturity and Christian character are the most desirable qualities of a Learning Center Coordinator.
- Proficiency in interpersonal communications and the ability to get along with others are also necessary skills.
- The Learning Center Coordinator needs to be organized and detail-oriented and have a high energy level.
- Proficiency in basic math (8th grade level) and written English are required.
- Able to work with all ages and types of people from all walks of life.
- Ability to give clear and concise instructions that are easy to follow.
- Knowledge of basic computer operations is required. Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Outlook is required.
- Experience in career guidance is recommended.
- Teaching experience is not necessary, but also recommended.
Education Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent is required.
- A college degree is not required but highly recommended.
- Need to be familiar with math and grammar concepts through an 8th grade level. Will take proficiency tests.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Model Christian ethics, communicating high integrity and living according to the statement of faith as expressed in the Boise Rescue Mission Handbook.
- Attend monthly meetings with other Learning Center Coordinators and Learning Center Manager.
- Attain CPR Certification training that is required Mission wide.
- Attain certifications and training as opportunities become available.
- Attend All Staff Meetings and possible participation in Mission-wide events.
Oversee the Learning Center
- Maintain computers and printers (Learning Center Manager will call for IT help as needed).
- Help guests and programmers as needed.
- Assess and evaluate student performance, including new student assessments, periodic student review per policy, and career guidance.
- Keep education and work search resources up to date.
- Track/monitor guest & NLP usage (everyone needs to sign the Internet Usage Policy)
- Monitor student activities and report weekly progress to counselors/advisors/case managers.
- Maintain student records and collect stats.
- Motivate students to perform to the best of their abilities, encouraging and helping students to stay focused and motivated to learn.
- Evaluate current course material and recommend changes and updates as needed.
- Do individual and group tutoring as needed.
- Keep Learning Center clean and tidy.
Classes
- Assist Learning Center Manager to facilitate and schedule classes for both programmers and guests.
- Teach or help coordinate class volunteers and course material – this includes review and recommendation of changes and updates as needed.
Helping Guests Get Their GED / High School Diplomas
- Connect with CWI and Learning Lab as needed.
- Assist and coordinate courses for students working on their GED or High School Diploma.
- Set up tutoring as needed.
- Perform required reviews, assign lessons using Edmentum Education System.
- Set up GED account & coordinate test schedules.
Job/Career Training
- Connect with Create Common Good, Life’s Kitchen, Job Corp, Idaho Dept. of Labor, Voc. Rehab, etc.
- Connect with other job training resources / write referrals.
New Life Program / Cradle of Hope
- Do individual assessments of educational level.
- Facilitate testing to complete course work / GED.
- Do individual tutoring as appropriate / set up additional tutoring as needed.
- Help with Phase-work.
- Possibly teach classes/devotion.
- Help with employment opportunities, resumes, cover letters, etc.
- Attend any staff meeting as required.
Staff Training
- Assist Learning Center Manager in setting up classes for staff continuing education.
- Be willing to become a certified instructor for different training programs for the Mission.
